I admit, I have never been much good at forcing bulbs. So I gave it the Harvard try...again.
I refrigerated crocus bulbs for 8 and 12 weeks. I sealed them in a sandwich bag wrapped in paper towels to absorb moisture, and put them in the bottom drawer of my fridge (sealed meats, cheeses, usually).
I took one out about a month before Christmas, and the rest were taken out right at Christmas. None of them have bloomed yet, and the crocuses outside are blooming like crazy!
So the +cats part. My husband decided that we aren't just going to leave food down for the cats 24x7 anymore, starting yesterday. When I got home, the foliage on my bulbs had been eaten/destroyed, and one of them was on the ground, completely out of its water source.
<--- This one. We'll see if I can actually get them to bloom. I had to toss a couple of them because of mold and cat destroyer. I also recently discovered a forsythia bush in my backyard. I also recently read that you can force forsythia. OooOh. I feel an experiment coming on. I trimmed it back, and it has tons of buds. So I brought the trimmed branches in and replaced my nandina berries as a decoration on top of my kitchen cabinets. We'll also see how these fare....
