Weekend Roundup.

So even though it was the most beautiful weekend to date in 2007, I was only able to get out for a little while today to play in the dirt a little. (Sue me...I had to go shopping yesterday!)

I moved the lirope from the front southwest exposure of my house in one of those hellstrips next to the stucco house, to the back under some rocks where it will be in dappled shade. I also moved the lily of the valley bulbs there as well. Those did quite well last year even though they were on the hellaciously hot back patio of our old house. Hopefully, they'll do even better now since they are where they're supposed to be.

While digging holes for these plants, I came across a curious bug/grub thingie. My instincts told me it was a grub, and sure enough a quick Google search confirmed the bad news.

I always suspected the swaths of dead grass were because of a overly irrigated lawn, thatch, and grubs, and now all three are confirmed suspicions.

Guess I'll have to make another visit to www.gardensalive.com to see what kind of organic grub control I can find....

I also took the time to plant my black eyed susans in the ground after being in a plastic pot for a year. Amazing how they multiply too! Once the pink coneflowers bloom some more, I'll do the same with them, layering them in height behind the BES's. I have polar coneflowers arriving in the mail soon also!

I actually got so tired from trying to dig a hole for the posts that will anchor the raised side veggie beds, that I actually came inside and watched Gardening By The Yard....all 3 that were added to the DVR this morning. This was kind of a lazy weekend, but I'm exhausted nonetheless...
