Garden Gift + New Look Coming Soon

Since my in-laws don’t read this blog, I’ll share with you what we’re giving them for Christmas.

My MIL loves all things “Tuscan” and my FIL loves to cook. So Chris dreamed up the idea of a potted herb garden – serves both aesthetic and functional purposes! We bought them these two pots, with the smaller one to sit raised within the larger one.

Since it’s December and garden centers aren’t carrying herbs, we had to grow our own. We started them from seed on Dec. 1st, in hopes they’d be nice and pretty by the 25th

Only 5 days left - grow little plants…grow!

In our South-facing “Garden Room”, we started:

Rosemary (cutting)
Thyme (cutting)
Cilantro (seed)
Chamomile (seed)
Italian Parsley (seed)
Basil (seed)
Chives (seed)
Mint (seed)

And yes I rotate the pots so the plants can upright themselves daily.

I sure hope my in-laws get lots of use out of this present!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven’t really been happy with the way my blog looks for quite a while now, but with school I haven’t had the time to update and simplify it. Now I have no excuse. I’ve been working on a simpler version that is easier to read, and hope to launch it in the next couple weeks. Happy New Year indeed!

Nice! I always think of doing the same thing for my mom, but never manage to start seeds on time. I love those pots you found.

Congrats Katie on getting your seedlings and cuttings up so quickly at your time of year. They look like they're doing well.

Look forward to seeing your new blog style - not that there's anything wrong with this one. All the best.

Great gift idea! Now why can't I have people like you in my family?? LOL

Merry Christmas (in case I'm not back here before then). Hope you get all the gardening "stuff" your heart desires :-)

New Year, new look for the blog, sounds like a great plan.

What an awesome gift! I wish I had friends and family like you. When I give people a bag of compost for the holidays, they just look at me funny. Go figure. :)

You can always try putting little plants in a cut down cardboard box in a windowsill, you cover the side opposite the window with aluminum foil and it reflects the light right back!

meg - we're hopefully making up for a few sorry Christmases past. I was surprised to find the exact pots we were looking for!

Stuart - It was luck. The basil and chives didn't germinate...so we'll see. If all goes well, should launch the new look this weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

Colleen - I just hope the gift doesn't come across as "what we want for Christmas" ! They should really like it. I told my husband that someone could get me a 20 pack of my favorite gloves and I'd be a happy clam. Doesn't take much for me! Happy Holidays to you and your as well.

Anthony - I hope it looks better than this nasty ol' thing! Still tweaking it in "sandbox" environment, so we'll see. I would LOVE to get compost for Christmas, but like I told Colleen...it doesn't take much to make me happy!

Matron - that is a FABULOUS idea! I will make certain to do that tomorrow (with the cardboard box in the back of the pot picture that the cats have chewed up!) AWESOME!

Carol - we ended up supplementing my FIL's gift with a spicy spice set from Penzey's Spices, so I think everything will work out wonderfully.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Nice gifts! I'm also planning to change my blog look (again). Add some more links too. I'm gonna have to create a garden link section. Even though I can't garden for anything...I love reading about other people's successes!
