How People find GardenPunks.com

A while back there was a thread out there about how people find your blog based on their internet searches. And sure enough, as I wrote this today Chile posted a blog about how someone found her using a very interesting search phrase

I have been keeping track of my site visits for a while by using StatCounter.com (which is FREE!), and a recent search made me laugh so hard, I figured I would share a few of the more popular searches that land on my site.

Apparently, people are very interested in:

Reading reviews of shweat scoop cat littler prior to buying it

  • Ammonia cat litter
  • Prego ladies

Figuring out what to do with old satellite dishes (lots and lots and lots of hits from my post about turning ours into a birdbath)
  • What to do with old satellite dish
  • Bird safe paint

MyFolia.com (if you do a Google search, my site comes up before the actual MyFolia site! NPR’s Garden Blog linked to my site when this was my main post and I got a ton of traffic from it. So my page rank rose because of it. The internet works in mysterious ways…)

Organic black widow control

I get a lot of hits relating to specific searches of fruit varieties that I posted about in my Backyard Orchard post

----------------------------------
And now on to the funny searches

Lots of people are interested in dog poop because of my posts about what’s in my garbage can, as well as the related topic of environmentally friendly carpet cleaning (think dog poop)
  • Poop in garbage can
  • Does dog poop go in garbage can for recycling
  • Removing dog poo from carpet
  • Environmentally safe carpet cleaning
  • Carpet cleaning safe for kids

Lots of people are interested in yurts...
  • Underground yurt
  • Sierra foothills yurt

And the award for the funniest search ever to grace GardenPunks.com is:

"pimp yurts"

This is in reference to my quote from this post,

“There are all kinds of options and ways to "pimp" out a yurt.”

We were howling at that one last night. Why someone would search pimp yurt, I have no idea. Perhaps they were looking for my post about pimping out a yurt.

Here are some other random searches as of late:
  • Weird environmentally friendly gifts
  • Reusable grocery bags
  • Clementine trees for northern California
  • Hand trigger shower garden
  • Mini pickaxe tool
  • How to fence vine wire trellis
  • Garage cabinets northern California
  • Composite 4x6 trex price
  • Gluten free pumpkin
  • Landscaping a suburban sideyard
  • Keep the dog from digging irrigation pipes
  • Seed starting calendar

Since funny searches come through every so often, I think this may turn into a semi-recurring post.

Anyone have any funny searches to share from recent search stats?

I have wanted to do a post on this for so long. Recently, hits I have had include "how to clean a toaster", "chicks on fire", "andrea zuckerman 90210 sexy pics", "big perfect round tits", "breeding cows by the phases of the moon", "cat wearing a watermelon hat", "chick gets oil on her delicate butt", "hot random half naked chicks", "I totally dig this chick how do I get her to notice me", "safe to eat polish sausage while pregnant?"

Top keyword searches that find my blog:

swimmer's tail
pregnant running
cheap trellis

endless fun

I too have wanted to do a post on this. It's just amazing the weird things that lead people to our blogs, isn't it?

Alas, nowhere near as funny on mine yet. But you bet I'll be sharing the info as soon as I get some :)

Have a great weekend!

dtc - I think you have me beat with weird searches...! Hilarity.

Kylee - We're waiting....!

VP - I'm sure the more we post about random non-garden related things, the more weird search terms will find our blogs...

I've just put the code for the stat-counter on my blog. We do have something similar at wordpress, but there is no way for me to look back over it, apart from the past two days, so we'll see what happens...yours are hilarious...but what is a yurt?!

chile - Chilean boobs is still pretty good.

vegmonkey - StatCounter is a great little free service. Even though it only holds 500 records for each item, still well worth looking through if not just for the laughs!

Katie, this one came today and I thought of you:

"Extreme Gardening". Cool huh? My all time favorite is "Living Loving Learning." I love that. But what a crazy thing to type into Google.

Most frequent searches: "meyer lemon recipes." Yep, I've done that search myself so I can see why. "Types of carrots" is big. And lots of different combos regarding "sustainable living." That's awesome.

A recent weird one: "moment of pecking." Huh? I'm going to start cataloging the weird ones now - there have been some really bizarre ones, but I can't remember them fully anymore.

Hilarious that your post comes before the myfolia site. That's very cool!
