I really dreamed about tomatoes last night.
Chris and I were sitting in our backyard enjoying nice weather when I spotted something red in the nearest tree. Lots of red things in fact. Glowing red orbs.
"Tomatoes!?" I half asked, half yelled with excitement.
Apparently, when we cut back the tomatoes at the end of the season, this vine had grown up and into the tree, and apparently we missed it when we were cleaning up.
Meanwhile, it continued to grow and produce different kinds of tomatoes:
Romas, Napa Grapes, Super Sweet 100s cherry tomatoes, Green tomatoes...all on the same vine.
You know that point in the season when you're all "tomatoed out" and can't even fathom eating another one?
That is in direct opposition to the point at which I am at now when all I can think about subconsciously is fresh tomatoes.
First tomato last year: July 16
Goal date this year: June 1
Only 91 days to go.

katie - what a delicious picture. I can't wait for the first tomato!
What a great dream! Ha ha.
I am bravely waiting two more months before I plant my tomatoes in the ground. I don't expect ripe fruit by June 1, no sir. But July 1, yeah.
Dude! I had a tomato dream the other night, too! I was sleeping (in my dream) and when I woke up there were tomatoes all over the bed with me. Unfortunately that didn't actually happen.
Good luck getting early tomatoes. Like Cookiecrumb, we've got at least two more months before we can thing of sticking any in the ground--I think we planted the 'maters on May 26th last year. Gah!
psst...minor typo in the "Leave your comment" blurb above here. I think you're missing an "are" or something. I don't know why I just noticed that; I swear I don't ordinarily go around nitpicking grammar. :P
Gina - From the looks of all of your seed starting adventures, we might be racing towards early tomato dates!
cookie - It's either a dream or a nightmare depending on how you see it. Now I'm craving tomatoes. 2 months will be here before you know it!
Meg - I'm not the only one with tomato want! Haha. I love keeping track of dates, just so I have historical reference points on my blog...and thanks for the heads up. I had to read it twice before I caught it. Fixed now. THANKS!
What a cool dream. I ready for tomatos too.
I don't think I could ever be tomatoed out! I love tomatoes, especially home grown, but I'll eat just about any kind, except the mushy, tasteless ones that occasionally show up at the supermarket.
Great photo!

aunt debbi - Thanks for stopping by a leaving a comment. I'm totally craving tomatoes now!
No Rain - I actually had some of those awful store bought tomatoes last night at a relative's house. Certainly didn't cure me of my craving...ewww
My tomatos are already growing! neener neener! As of now, I only have one variety (unknown) in the ground (4 plants) and they vary in size in series. They look like bars on a cell phone next to eathother...lol. It's weird that they are turning out that way. The second to the smallest one already has two small green tomatos on the plant. All the others, including the biggest plant (the one i've already had to cut back) are still flowering. I should have my first tomato in early May possibly.
Ha~Ha!
It's sooo weird, it's starting to feel like the middle of Spring during mid-day here in socal.
I have a plant covered in tomatoes. They are still green, ranging in size from spitball to raquetball. I have no idea how big they will get and if they'll be red since they are an heirloom variety from our CSA. When they're ripe, you're welcome to drive on over for a taste. It should be before June... ;-)
Garrett - Hey, my tomatoes are outside and one is about to bloom. I'm not far behind you now!
Chile - Is that the same plant that you had all winter?
Yep, sure is, Katie. Come by my blog tomorrow for a picture, a real live picture, of the very first red tomato of the season!
