So why in the hell am I still driving to work? I work 3 miles from my house. I'm flanked by two grocery stores, a mile in either direction (one has Strauss Dairy products, and the other is on my way home from work). And we live in a community where the shortest distance between 2 points is by bike, and the bike trails rock and are getting even better, and is a definitely a biker's community. Folsom is 24 square miles, meaning the longest distance across the city is 5 miles. And it has absolutely everything I'd ever need (except certain family members, that is)...
I've been talking about it for weeks, and finally went to the bike store today and bought new tires and inner tubes.
Folks, my bike is in working condition for the first time in a decade.
So Chris and I are going to get back into the swing of riding (remember when you were attached to your bike for months on end during the summer as a kid!? - Yeah like that). I fully expect to ride to work next Monday after a week of getting back in the saddle (if not sooner).
There are a few last minute items like headlights and flashers that we will need to acquire in order to ride safely in the dark to work in the morning. Once we have these items and feel comfortable on our bikes again...the world is ours for the taking! (Chris works about 2 blocks away from where I do, and the bike trail spits us out in between our work locations).
I am totally excited on another level. I can't even explain how awesome it is to be possibly car free for a while!
I want to thank the following blogs for their inspiration in getting me back on my bike:
Chile Chews and her Xtracycle (very awesome - I can't wait to see if I could benefit from a FreeRadical hitch to my bike!)
Morris at Our SAZ Life and his many bike rides and adventures with CP
No Impact Man who still rides his bike in the middle of NYC even after getting hit by a car
I strive to be like each of you. Kudos.
