The Evolution of a Garden Blog

It’s always interesting to see what kind of blogs link to yours – like a finger on your blog’s pulse by surveying what kind of visitors it’s attracting.

What’s especially telling is what kind of sites are linking to yours.

I’ve wondered a lot recently if I still qualify as a true “Garden blogger” – my guess is probably not. I like to consider this a blog about a family that’s doing it’s best to lessen its environmental impact through changing the way it does its everyday activities by investigating alternatives. There must be a better solution, I always say, and thus prompts us to try and figure out how to lessen our impact – one activity at a time.

On this blog’s first birthday – a new motto arose and this blog turned into what we as a family were doing to lessen our environmental impact, notwithstanding, gardening organically. I started this quest as a garden blog, but it's through gardening that I have found a passion for thoughtful, sustainable living – and the fun is seeing how far we can take it.

GardenPunks
I would never change the name of this blog. I came up with it on a whim as I was trying to figure out a name for my new garden blog, and it stuck. I think it’s still quite … apt really, even today. I may not post as much about gardening as I once did, but then again I think my blog would get stale if that’s all I talked about. (I’m constantly flitting about from one thing to another, so it’s no surprise things have changed around here).

As of late, I’ve noticed a dramatic up tick in the number of “green” blogs that have GardenPunks on their blogroll. To be listed next to sites like No Impact Man, Grist, and be labeled as an Editor's Choice on Best Green Blogs is an honor beyond comprehension for me, and a real personal triumph seeing that this wasn’t even what I originally set out to do!

Speaking of links - I appreciate the links and always try to reciprocate (please email me if I have somehow not returned a link, Technorati isn’t the most accurate sometimes…).

Chris and I are going through an interesting and exciting period in our life that may bring many changes in the next year or so (NOT kids, thanks for not asking!), but we’ll continue to do more to lessen our impact and blog about our adventures, while every so often throwing in a garden-related post to appease the gardening gods.

Even though this is now a "green" blog.

I love saying that.
