Freakishly Cold April Weather

Last weekend it hit 94o at the weather station near my house.

It's regularly been in the high 40s to low 50s at night this week. (Runner bean and Nicotiana plantin' weather)

But tonight, it's supposed to get down into the mid-high 30s.

Freakishly abnormal.

I'm steaming mad that I STILL can't set some of my plants outside until this weather system passes over the weekend. I just hope those that have been in the ground for a while (sunflowers specifically) will pull through. I've already had to replant them once...

The tomatoes thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather of the last week and decided to pop their heads out of the wall o waters and say hello. Last week I was actually worried about a couple of them - and they all have flowers now. We will need to cover the tops with a floating row cover just in case there is going to be frost. Once this weather system passes, I think we're going to take the wall o waters off and let them fend for themselves (unless another freakish weather system comes through).

This picture reminds me that I need to top them off with water again.

Last year our first tomato was July 19th. This year I'm shooting for July 4 or sooner. That would mean only 76 days until those flowers become luscious tomatoes.

76, 75, 74...
