I heart Frogs

frog on lilypad, originally uploaded by gardenpunk.

I took this picture on Saturday night at Chris' grandma's house. She has a kick a$$ pond. And it's frog mating season.

And this gal was pretty and being pursued. Yes, I have pictures of frog sex, but in the interest of not posting animal porn, this is a more demure picture.

But really, I liked the picture and thought I'd share. Plus how often do you get to say animal porn?

I wish we had more frogs. Those will probably come with the pond in Phase 46 of our landscape...

These frogs have a right to some privacy. You Froggerazzi types are getting out of control.

better move up the pond to at least phase 14, the sound of trickling water makes the perfect backdrop to birds singing. And don't forget the live "Shows" Who needs video when you can watch it live.

I love the sound of frogs, too. Years ago there was a pond out back, but not now. (although sometimes when it rains a lot...) When it's really rainy in the spring we still get a few. Love the pictures of the progress on your backyard.

LOL! @ post and comments
Phase 46...lol. I thought everything you guys are planning was all happening during phase 1? It's supposed to be like a really loooong phase that keeps getting changed, right? lol.
Instead of numbering the 'phases' you guys should refer to the phases by what project you're doing. Like, 'The Pond Phase', or 'The Duck Phase' etc; lol. Then when you feel no more projects will fit on your property, number each phase you've completed then...lol.

Cute frog and nice photo. It's very National Geographic.

What a great photo of your frog, Katie! We're hearing them here, finally. I've run into a few toads in the garden and I also saw our favorite garter snake again today. I'm not afraid of those little guys.

I heart frogs, too, and do what I can to lure them to my property. :)

Nice picture :) I would love to have a pond and frogs (after learning that they were good for the garden) but the fuddy duddy husband isn't so sure. Besides, he's positive the hunting dog would kill them. I'm afraid he's right...

Can you plunk any old frog in the frog in the pond or are there different types that will fare better where you guys live?

There's just one word for that - brrrrurdup!

You need to come over to my place to collect an award on Friday. Hopefully Google will behave itself and my post dated for then will pop up and all will be revealed!

I love frogs! and toads too... there used to be little penny-sized toads hopping through our backyard when I was little. I'm hoping a few will hop through the new community plot: there's a bit of wetland behind the meadow...hope, hope...

Jamie - Build it and they will come.

Anthony - Next they'll want fancy toad houses on the small hills in my backyard, and my backyard will become the LA for frogs/toads.

spelled with a k - Thusly noted. But I think it may be phase 16A now instead of your 14.

Christine - I love before and after garden pictures and watching how things progress, so you can nearly always expect before and after pictures. But of the frog porn, probably not.

Garrett - Naming phases makes a world more sense. But then when I make a list, I have this OCD tendency to number. Back to ... phase 1. haha!

Krisi - Thanks! Take enough pictures and odds are at least one will look good, right?

Kylee - I've never seen a snake in my life at any house I've lived at, but we did see that crazy snake lizard thing the other day. They don't scare me either!

Nancy - We've noticed the number of frogs and lizards grow exponentially as our property was switched to organic methods when we moved here. That's an EASY way to lure wildlife to your property!

rayrena - Thankfully our dog doesn't have a hunting instinct at all, except when it comes to squirrels. I'm not sure what kinds of frogs or toads are here, but I'm sure a quick Google search will enlighten me!

VP - Even though you won't even be there! Looking forward to it tomorrow.

Margo - this little frog was tiny as well, but had a hell of a croak. I think this may be the same kind you referenced!
