I was talking to Chris just a few minutes ago because he just got home from a work trip and I was unloading my week on him (I call it turkey talk because I miss talking to him when he's gone so I have to tell him everything ASAP, and I talk so fast I sound like a gobble gobble).
Whoa! Was that a hawk just flew into our yard?
Runs to slider
WHOA! It's a turkey in the backyard!
Insert the two of us running to the kitchen to get the camera, which was on manual focus when I took the first pictures and didn't realize it, so the first ones I took were blurry and no good! Picture montage below.
It walked around the backyard for a bit. I wonder if this is the animal pooping in the raised beds garden? I've noticed some interesting wild animal poo. perhaps this is what ate all of my soybean seedlings? They were growing, but then got cut off at ground level? I dunno.

This picture of Jake and Travis being highly interested is totally making me laugh.

Yep, it flew ON OUR ROOF. And then I ran out front and tried to get a picture of it on the roof, but... it ended up jumping off and running away
The adventures never cease.

I have some friends whose yard would regularly be invaded by turkeys. They're pretty funny to watch, and apparently a lot smarter than they look.
Nuthin bigger than a blue jay in my yard though.
My husband saw a wild turkey in our yard, or so he claims. I haven't seen anything larger than a blue jay myself. Great photos!
Katie - this is awesome! My favorite is the last one where the turkey is running down the street.
Gobble Gobble!
I'm with Gina. I love the one where it's running down the street...lol. It's all like "I gottah get outtah here before Thanksgiving." lol.
That reminds me of the day our neighbor's peacock was on our front porch. It flew up on our roof and was pecking on the bedroom window!
That's bizarre...a turkey.
Oh yeah, the neighbors have turkeys, too. LOL.
Wild turkeys = hilarity!
Brilliant...just think though, BBQ, skewer, short wait, full tummy! MMMMMM... Turkey...
spelled with a k - I wonder if turkeys eat seedlings? I might have to allow Jake in the side yard if this is the case, just to chase them off (dog wouldn't know how to kill something other than a squirrel, which we don't have around here anyway). I've always heard turkeys aren't so smart, but this one hopped the fence into an organic garden; I now believe they're smarter than they look as well!
Heather - We have turkeys on and off around here. I think it has to do with the construction going on over across the main road (where believe it or not, my work is building a new building!!). Bummer for all of the wild creatures though. It's only redeeming feature (aside from being a 5 minute walk to work for me) will be it's LEED Certification.
Gina - The turkey running also made me laugh pretty hard. I guess I scared him.
Garrett - Did I mention we're vegetarians now? Seriously. So only tofurkey for us on Thanksgiving!
Kylee - Hey, at least peacocks are something nice to look at! But I was floored that he/she jumped on the roof. How bizarre. Like I said, the adventures around here never end!
Natalie - I bet chickens are funnier to be around than turkeys! Lucky you...
vegmonkey - I don't know if I'd want to eat a wild turkey from around here. But if it's eating our organic seedlings...hmmm....
but....but...I thought you said you wounldn't give up meat? :( Was that you or someone else? haha. I don't remember reading anything about being vegetarians, if I did I must have skimmed through it by accident. The other week I thought about at least not eating red meat anymore. That's a start, I don't know if I could go cold turkey, HA!
