I can't believe I'm linking to this

flowing water
Mountain Stream, 2007, Northern California

Many of you know that I don't believe much of what the Sacramento Bee prints is worth the paper it is written on (my apologies in advance to the dissenters of that opinion), but they had a short editorial about water use in the Sacramento region today.

Speaking of water use in the area...

We met Taryn and Joe today at the Folsom Farmer's Market and felt immediately welcomed and happy to meet people "just like us." We talked for a couple hours and agreed to meet up again soon. Plus they brew their own beer. Everyone needs friends like that.

Taryn mentioned that NPR ran a story about Folsom water use recently and that we have one of the highest rates of water consumption per capita in the WORLD. Not the county, region, state or country. THE WORLD. Wow. That surprised me, yet didn't so much. There is this picture I keep meaning to take early in the morning of this street next to mine after everyone runs their sprinklers - you can see the water flowing over the sidewalk and into the gutters at EVERY house on the street. As if the builders set their sprinklers to all run at the same time 10 years ago and nobody has altered their watering schedule since.

The article says San Juan Water district uses more than Folsom. I dunno about that...

Water is a hot-button issue here in Northern California, yet Sacramento and the surrounding areas do not have metered water. How is this? I wish they would turn on my meter that way I can see how much I'm using + figure out how much I can save.
