My dog has eaten grass since he came into our pack a few years ago. He has had at least one trip to the vet because of it, and depending on circumstances, may have another visit in his future.
My dog has a particular liking for purple fountain grass. If you've ever had the pleasure of cutting fountain grass back (like I did today), you know it's razor sharp one way and smooth the other. Now imagine that in a dog's stomach. Not a good combination.

Jake sunning himself on a warm winter day
Recently he has had mucous in his stool, enough of it to alarm us. We feed him a raw diet (I don't want to get into it here), and when Chris was out of town last week, Jake got some interesting food because I would always forget to take his regular food out of the freezer (I don't want to get into it here). I think something I fed Jake he may have been allergic to, and since his stomach was irritated, he relied upon his ol' buddy fountain grass to make him feel better.
Now he has mucous in his stool (no blood thankfully - which is a promising sign). So he's going to rest today, and I will feed him some rice and other bland easy-on-the-tummy foods for a few days, and take him to the vet on Tuesday if things aren't looking any better.
So today I removed the fountain grasses, which we had planned to do anyway as they had prime real estate for cane berries to grow up and against the fence! Now I just have to improve the soil there....
I'll let you know when Jake is feeling better.
