Thanks to everyone for kind words and thoughts for us about the Northern California wildfires. Honestly, we’re quite a ways away from them - it’s just been the wind bringing the smoke down from the Sierras. We are nowhere near harm, unless you count our air quality as harmful! (And it is).
I’m really excited because tomorrow Chris and I are going to see WALL-E, the new Pixar/Disney movie. The last movie we saw in the theaters was Transformers last year on July 4th, 2007. Obviously, we don’t see very many movies, mostly because we never see the commercials for them since we hardly watch TV. (Although we wanted to see Harold and Kumar 2, but opted to wait for its DVD release instead). ...
It certainly helps that I won a Fandango gift certificate from work months ago – Free movie!
WALL-E is the story of a robot that has been brought to earth to clean up humanity’s trash that has ruined Earth and caused the mass exodus of all humans. For 700 years, WALL-E (aka. Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Earth Class) goes about his business of doing his job of compacting trash into little cubes, but he’s the only robot left; someone forgot to turn him off with all of the other trash robots when the cleanup program failed.
As he sifts through the trash he comes upon neat treasures that he takes back to his shack and puts on his shelves, including an interesting item which the audience immediately recognizes as a plant.
So what is WALL-E to do when a new robot named EVE shows up (aka. Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) looking for the last plant on Earth? Can you see the love story developing?
My Dad told me about the movie last night, so I’ve been reading about it since then, Pixar says it’s more of a love/loneliness story than one with an environmental message, but I think that’s horse puckey. If this isn’t a movie with a strong message, I don’t know what is. I will let you know how much I loved it tomorrow.
Future past tense? Yes.
