My alarm clock. We have a love/hate relationship.
I love it's snooze button.
It just hates me.
As a kid I had a Sony DreamMachine - the world's best alarm clock. It was the first thing I ever remember saving my money for, a whole $19.95 worth back in the 80s. (It was also my first lesson in sales tax). That alarm clock worked like a champ, and think it still worked when I lost track of it (I think we left it in a rental house a few years back). I haven't been able to find another that is quite the same. It had red lighted numbers, which is a feature I cannot find in newer alarm clocks. (Did you know the color red does not impair your night vision?) Sometimes I have to make this awful alarm clock pictured face the wall because it's so darn bright. And we have another one in the guest bedroom with a perma-nightlight on the top, which I've taped over.
Anyhow, this morning I woke up before my alarm went off and looked at the time:
8:35am
Rubbing my eyes, I looked outside and it was dark dark. Like totally dark.
"There is no way I'm late for work unless this is the apocalypse", I thought to myself.
I rubbed my eyes again and consulted my cell phone: 5:34am
I should add that I set the alarm on my cell phone because I do not trust the alarm clock.
Huh?
After thinking really hard, I don't think I changed my clock. I think it has a mind of its own and does not like how often I consult the snooze button.
I suffer from poor sleep anyway, and just having to worry about an alarm clock ruins my day. It wasn't always like this; I once owned a Sony DreamMachine.
