New Eyes

Blue flower(s), originally uploaded by gardenpunk.

Forgive my ramblings

I never much enjoyed winter. It bookends the rest of the year on either side, you know, the times you get to garden. Yeah, starting seeds is fun, but hot damn I can't wait until July when everything is in full bloom and gorgeous. I was so smitten with July last night that I couldn't stop my mind from racing and only got 4 hours or so of sleep.

This year I've enjoyed our winter a little more than normal, seeing it through new eyes. The bones of landscapes are exposed, and I've noticed things I never did before.

Interesting.

I'm tired. I miss my blog. I can't keep up with your blogs. Or Twitter. My arm hurts again. I want to take more pictures.

I need a vacation.

Man, sounds like I have S.A.D.!!

What about you?

The flower pic is amazing! I hope you had it framed.

Winter is not my favorite either. Of course we don't really have winter. On another blog I read, she had a reading of -29* this morning. I couldn't do it. We have an arctic cold front coming in tonight. It was 65* today, tomorrow our high will be in the mid 30's. Really freaks out the plants and animals.

That is one beautiful photo. We're having the coldest, snowiest weather in southern CT that I can remember in at least the past 15 years so I am having a very hard time dealing with winter. I actually caught myself on Sunday -- when the temp was 15 -- saying "At least the sun is shining," as I shivered all the way to my car.

May will be here before you know it. . .

Katie - did you take that picture? I believe that is my favorite one, EVER! In fact - I think I need that hanging in my house somewhere lol.

I'm still not finished picking out seeds. I think I'm just overwhelmed with all the Spring Fling planning, community garden planning and working my day job, I've hardly had time to think about my own garden. I'm hating that.

I'm usually good until the end of January...so I have 4 more good days!...then it starts to fall apart for me until April. I get sick of it being grey every...single...day.

I have to remember to fill the bird feeders - the flashes of Cardinal red do help break up the grey and brown backdrop of winter...

Don't ever move to a place where it snows, if you think you hate winter now...

I'm not a fan of winter either, but I think sometimes its nice to have a break from all the spring/summer/fall outdoors projects. Of course, if I could work outside year round, then I probably wouldn't have to maintain such a pace during the good months.

Wow, Katie. You sound just like me! Well - my arm doesn't really hurt, but I want to blog more and take more pictures, and do something with them once I take them.

Be well and hang in there. It could be worse - it could be below freezing for a month like here.

I hear ya, girl. Asheville plunged into the single digit realm last week, pushing our winter hoop garden to the very edge (sorry chard, catch you later). I've ordered my seeds as salve, but I'm also ready to stop hurrying between the car and the front door and dally in the garden some. It will be here soon!! (And it will be there even sooner...)

Definitely you don't want to move to where the weather gets cold, snowy and grey, Katie. But seriously, I know how you feel. SAD is a real annoyance for some, debilitating for others. It's not so bad for me this year because I'm still in surgery-recovery mode and I missed the worst (darkest) days of winter. Now the days are definitely getting longer, I feel the heat in the sunlight even when it's 10 below zero, and I have all these great blogs to read and inspire me. It's all good.
And that flower photo? Is awesome. I'd frame it too!

Winter pretty much kills me - I hate it, so dark all the time and only getting to the Lottie at weekends. I have bad depression anyway, it's just not on.

But that photo ~ I'm off to Flickr to get hold of it and add it to my favs ~ beautiful.

I think we all get a bit of SAD this time of year.

But your gorgeous pic cheered me right up!

I am looking forward to a trip to your good in a few weeks (Paige is getting married) as a much needed green, warmish vacation....see, it's all about perspective! ha.

Can't wait to see what you grow this year.

A beautiful flower that makes me long for warmer summer days.

Most of us would probably agree that winter can be a drag but at least the days are getting noticeably longer!
