Earth Hour 2009

Last year we participated in Earth Hour by turning off the lights for a specified hour and enjoying the candlelight.

Won't you join us this year?

Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at www.commit21.com

Can I turn everything off except the recorder? I may have trouble convincing the EM to sit without his TV. He is an addict. I guess if I offer to substitute something else...LOL :)

Well I can promise that our lights will be off at that time, but we'll be at a Ben Folds concert, so I'm not sure it will really count.

Hadn't heard of this before - I'm in!

We had a power outtage last week that lasted from 2 in the afternoon until after we went to bed. You don't realize how reliant you are on power until it goes away.

Stressful in the afternoon when I was cut off from my computer (I work at home) but quite nice to spend the evening chatting by candlelight.

I'm going to the Ben Folds concert too. But if I weren't, then I would most definitely.

*But if I weren't, then I would most definitely participate in this event.
haha that didn't really make sense before

I wasn't really planning to participate, because I'm not sure I can draw a definite conclusion regarding human impact on the global climate. I don't discount the possibility, but there is so much data that I am just not sure. But I read a quote in the paper today from some ridiculous organization, that has convinced me that my participation is worthwhile. http://cei.org/human-achievement-hour

Regardless of douchebag influence, there is no downside to conservation, and using less energy will, at minimum, reduce the amount of pollution introduced into the environment. So (my:) Katie and I will be powering down tonight. I just signed us up.

Kim & Vic - So did you?

Kory - It is about the amount of time it takes to play one game of Scrabble.

Layanee - I dunno what the rules are exactly. We didn't unplug the DVR last year...

Heather & Ian - You could always participate another day or time...

SusanGardenChick - I think you hit the nail on the head. It is strange to not be able to turn on lights and whatnot, but the candle light and quiet conversation is worth it.

Mike - Glad to see that you were considering it! You're absolutely right - there is NO downside to conservation. :D
