There's nothing like a post about being burned out to get the creative fires stoked again.
A quick video blog about the Waspinator - a pesticide/chemical-free way to rid your garden or BBQ/kegger of wasps. It'll just take a minute.
This was the first take too! Yeah, that's how I roll. And see - I don't have a lisp!!

That's pretty cool. So, it fools the wasps into thinking their territory is taken, or what?
BTW, you look like a teen boy in the video. (very young is what I mean).
Nice demo!
Great idea! I'm always looking for pesticide-free ways to get rid of those darn Folsom wasps (I think I made an unintentional joke...).
Interesting! It looks too simple to work, but I'm taking your word and will look out for it.
Very interesting- I too have a question about how it works- is it that the territory looks taken already, or perhaps wasps check into the Waspinator but they don't check out? I'll just have to go take a lookee see for myself- thanks for the heads up!
very interesting, does it affect the larger wasps only or does it scare away all the little parasitic wasps too. I love those guys, they kept my cukes safe last year.
Same question from Matron! Do the wasps think that there are already other wasps in the area and decide not to build a nest? hmmm are they that smart?
I was hoping for something with flames but I guess this will have to do.
awe you are adorable. and, now I believe that you don't have a lisp! ha.
That thing is amazing. So simple. Isn't is great how the simple things work better than the expensive, angry, toxic things? love it.
I love your shirt! Great post I have wasps too.
Kim & Victoria - Yep, wasps are territorial so an interloper sees it as a neighboring crew. Not wanting to beef with them, it hightails it out of there! And PS - you totally cracked me up with the teenage boy thing. Spot on!
Krissi - This comment thread is full of jokes! Unfortunately, the Waspinator comes with the following message: "Does not repel suburban moms carrying Starbucks, dressed in velour, or driving suburban attack vehicles."
EAL - It works amazingly well. We did not use this our first year here, and the wasps were all up in the tomato plants. Last year - hardly any to speak of.
ceblakeney - Yep, wasps are territorial so an interloper sees it as a neighboring crew. Not wanting to beef with them, it hightails it out of there! I made an edit to the post to address this question. Thanks for bringing it up!
Kory - I would imagine only the paper wasps are affected because there was no shortage of parasitic wasps in our yard last year. I believe parasitic wasps are solitary?
Matron - Yep, wasps are territorial so an interloper sees it as a neighboring crew. Not wanting to beef with them, it hightails it out of there! (Sorry to repeat the same comment, but this was a common question!). I updated the post to answer it as well. I think they are that smart!
Ralph - Man that would have made for a cooler video. Then I would have looked like a teenage boy with a flamethrower!
digthischick - Thanks! Yes, it is amazing how ingeniously created items lack anger and toxicity. :D
Jen - Thanks for leaving a comment! Good luck with your garden this year.
