Another HFCS warning

corn

I was reading over all of your blogs tonight and came across this post over at Kicking and Screaming.

I usually try to avoid high fructose corn syrup, but break my rule for an occasional soda or other snack.

HFCS can contain Mercury.

READ THAT AGAIN.

HFCS can contain Mercury.

Mercury. Wow.

Being a human being, and more specifically, a woman of childbearing years, this is a toxic nightmare. You can bet your bottom dollar I'd rather go hungry than consume anything with HFCS in it, EVER AGAIN.

Way to go, FDA. You've once again illustrated why you do NOT have American's best interests in mind.

New Eyes

Forgive my ramblings

I never much enjoyed winter. It bookends the rest of the year on either side, you know, the times you get to garden. Yeah, starting seeds is fun, but hot damn I can't wait until July when everything is in full bloom and gorgeous. I was so smitten with July last night that I couldn't stop my mind from racing and only got 4 hours or so of sleep.

This year I've enjoyed our winter a little more than normal, seeing it through new eyes. The bones of landscapes are exposed, and I've noticed things I never did before.

Interesting.

I'm tired. I miss my blog. I can't keep up with your blogs. Or Twitter. My arm hurts again. I want to take more pictures.

I need a vacation.

Man, sounds like I have S.A.D.!!

What about you?

Salad Greens

Salad Greens, originally uploaded by gardenpunk.

Our salad greens are really enjoying the nice weather. Until I met Chris, I called salad greens "rabbit food". While I am not a huge fan of strong tasting greens, I want to live a long time so they will be part of my diet.

Plus, they're pretty in the garden.

Hi

I spent the last week in LA, and have spent this weekend taking advantage of the wonderfully warm weather we're having (I'm not bragging, just saying...). So I have been avoiding the computer until right now.

I've been a little busy since I've been home.

I have some fun pictures from SoCal to share, and lots of emails to return soon. I'll get to them all tomorrow I hope!

The moon tonight

Chris and I spent this afternoon and early evening celebrating a late Christmas with my family at my mom's house (my sister lives in San Francisco and worked over Christmas, so this was the earliest we could get together as a family).

When we got home, I walked into my kitchen and the moon was shining brightly through the glass door to the backyard, illuminating a shadowy figure that looked like he could eat me alive.

Jake in moonlight

That's just the Jakedog!

The moon was so bright tonight it nearly took my breath away. I am going to try to steal away at moonrise tomorrow to take harvest moon shots.

Happy New Year

My penstemon hasn't stopped blooming. It's January 1st!

It almost looks like trumpets, and is as if they're ringing in the New Year.
